Business for Sale Overview:
This is a mom and pop convenience store with no gas. Family operated, wife primarily runs the store and husband does the purchases with outside vendors, banking etc. They have 1 car so both open store at same time and close at same time, thus they are exhausted by the end of the day. This store sells a large selection of beer in the 9-door reach-in cooler. The beer markup is approximately 10%-12% and the cigarette markup approximately 30%. Grocery and other miscellaneous foods have a markup of 30%. They also have apparel, t-shirts, caps, watches, body jewelry and other sundry items at a 100% markup. They sell many phone cards. The $3 retail phone card costs them $2.25 for a $.75 profit. The $5 retail phone card costs them $4 for a $1 profit. The verbal Tennessee sales tax reported was $18,000-$20,000 per month, however they did not show any tax returns. They do z-out the cash register at the end of each day and showed weekly sales from $1,350 a day on Monday to $1,800 a day on Thursday. The sales on Friday and Saturday are normally between $2,300 and $2,900 per day. Sunday sales are the slowest, with last Sundays (6/1/08) at $750. Buyers will be able to see the business traffic through the store, as they are not reporting all the sales. They are open to the buyer watching the sales after an acceptable offer is made. The business does accept federal food stamps. The business also has a lottery in which they make $19 for every $300 in lottery tickets purchase. Lottery sales are $25,000 weekly. Growth opportunity in cashing checks as this business currently does not perform check cashing! Seller is in the process of getting an ATM machine which will bring in additional commissions!
