The standard method of utilizing a small towel wrapped around the client's neck under the trach was cumbersome, time consuming and unreliable. This is a unique, inexpensive-to-produce product to increase comfort of patients needing a trachtube. Can be used by both the ventilated and non-ventilated tracheotomy patients.
The support is made of a non-latex, low absorption, light weight, flexible "soft skin" foam product which is secured to the tracheotomy collar with a hook and loop tie or around the neck with a cotton tie. On the freshly trached patient, the product supports the weight of the ventilator tubing. This support is especially important for patients who have had the trach stitched in so the pillow will decrease the pull on the skin causing less trauma to the area. Through use of the product, the chronic patient will be considerably more comfortable.
For those patients who deflated their cuffs, the product will help support the tracheotomy tube so it does not pull forward causing less irritation and minimizing the likelihood of trachtube movement, which can cause internal damage.
