{"id":899,"date":"2016-12-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-12-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.businessbroker.net\/blog\/2016\/12\/01\/women-business-owners\/"},"modified":"2016-12-01T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-12-01T00:00:00","slug":"women-business-owners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.businessbroker.net\/blog\/buying-a-franchise-or-business\/women-business-owners\/","title":{"rendered":"WOMEN BUSINESS OWNERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A large percentage of businesses are owned by women. &nbsp;Through a combination of societal and political change, women have entered the workforce in record numbers since the 1970&#8217;s. &nbsp;Legislation aimed at curbing discrimination on the basis of race and sex has enabled women to move ahead in many fields which once were traditional male domains. &nbsp;Women moved from a time when women were considered unlucky if they had to work at jobs outside the home because their husbands did not make the money needed for the family, to a time when they were sometimes considered to have no ambition or not very intelligent if they chose to be a homemaker and not work outside the home. &nbsp;Now women are considered equally intelligent if they choose a career or choose to be a homemaker. &nbsp;No woman needs to ever apologize because she is &lsquo;just a housewife,&rsquo; as raising her children is the most important job she will ever have. Changing women&rsquo;s roles, however, indicate that most women will work outside the home until retirement. &nbsp;The high divorce rate forces more women to be self-supporting or heads of households. &nbsp;Also, a large percentage of married and single women choose to pursue a career. &nbsp;A good thing began and continued to happen after the 1970&#8217;s, as men and women shared the responsibility of the children. &nbsp;If they argue over who should have that responsibility, the children are the ones who suffer.<br \/>\n<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are many reasons women choose to own their own businesses. &nbsp;It has been traditionally more difficult for women to move up the corporate ladder, so owning a business is a natural option. &nbsp;Women, like men, enjoy the idea of being in control and the ability to take risks that enable them to earn more profits. &nbsp;It is usually easier to work around children&rsquo;s schedules, allowing for more quality family life. &nbsp;<br \/>\n<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>So how does a woman owner differ from a man? &nbsp;Just as men owners are different from each other and women owners are different from each other, so are men and women owners different from each other. &nbsp;The knowledge, education, skills and ability could be the same; but personality and type of management are usually what we see as the difference. &nbsp;Men tend to be more assertive than women and never look back after making a decision, while too often women second guess their decisions. &nbsp;Women are naturally more nurturing than men, and that is a great quality that can be used in business. &nbsp;Getting to know employees and contacts on a personal level is typical of women, whether dealing with men or women; but men tend to stick strictly to business, which works well for them. &nbsp;Because of that nurturing quality, women owners are usually more likely to understand work scheduling because of children&rsquo;s activities or illness.<br \/>\n<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some men offer resistance to working for a woman boss based on preconceived attitudes or stereotypes when qualities admired in men are seen in women as threatening. &nbsp;This is another advantage for a woman owning a business rather than being a manager in the corporate world. &nbsp;As a business owner, she is regarded as &lsquo;the ultimate&rsquo; boss, which she is, and sometimes receives more respect.
