The Importance of Staying Hydrated!

Please click here for more information on Redline Athletics - FL

Staying hydrated while playing your sport, or in your daily work-outs, is of the up-most importance.

  • 01Proper hydration begins 24-hours before any athletic activity, training or competition. The athlete must be consuming healthy, hydrating fluids. When we educate RedLine athletes on nutrition and the importance of eating healthy, what fluids are consumed are also discussed. Athletes between the ages of 8-18, should be drinking 8-10 glasses of water each day. Another option for hydration is coconut water. You could even mix this with other 100% natural fruit juices but you should always stay away from soda, or other sugary drinks.
Regular purified water is still the best option! We are conditioned to think that sports drinks replenish the vital electrolytes that are lost due to strenuous exercise, but these should be to replenish the athlete after competition, and not their sole source of daily fluid intake.
  • 02Coaches have drastically changed their mindset on the importance of water, realizing how important staying hydrated truly is, and enforcing it with their athletes. Coaches now schedule “natural” breaks in the workouts or practices that allow for a quick water break. As a result, they are seeing more alert, ready to play athletes that have their head in the game!
  • 03So what is the rule of thumb for replenishment? For every pound lost, the athlete needs to consume about 16oz. of water, and 8-10 glasses of water is a must!
