Our Story and How It All Started
My name is John Scinicariello. My story begins with my two mentors, My Grandparents, Nonno Johnny and Nonna Palmina. It has been over seventy-five years since my Grandparents immigrated from Gaeta, Italy to Boston, where my grandfather worked for a bakery. In 1960 they moved to Stamford, Connecticut, where they opened John the Baker.
My Grandparents had an incredible work ethic and passion for the business, believing fresh ingredients and providing excellent customer service was a recipe for success. Beginning at the age of five, I would spend my free time at the restaurant helping and learning how to make pizza dough, pasta, sauces and everything in between. That is where my own passion for the business started. After my grandfathers passing, my Uncle Mario and Grandmother opened Mario the Baker in Stamford Connecticut, where I worked all through High School. In 1969, my uncle sold the restaurant and moved to North Miami, Florida to opened Mario the Baker.

In 1973, I moved to South Florida and became the manager at his restaurant for twenty-three years. I left in 1996 to open John the Baker in Pembroke Pines with my wife Patty. We had a warm welcome in the community due to a lot of former customers from North Miami, who relocated to the same neighborhood. We enjoyed many wonderful years serving wholesome, delicious food to our customers and giving back to our community. In 2006, we opened a second location in Cooper City. We had two locations for one year and then sold Pines location in 2007.
