Our Story

Steven Montgomery, the founder of That 1 Painter, discovered a passion for painting at a young age. The son of a professional painter, Steven would often help his dad with painting jobs after school and decided to continue learning long after his father retired from the business. While in college, Steven would borrow his father’s old equipment and help paint homes for his realtor mother, her colleagues, and their clients

In 2011, Steven decided to leave college and his day job to pursue his calling: entrepreneurial business. He created his company, That 1 Painter, which in the early years was he and a couple hired friends painting homes together.

Today, That 1 Painter has successfully moved from a local Texas company to a rapidly expanding Nationwide brand known for its stellar technology, streamlined onboarding, and superior coaching–ask our Franchisees! That 1 Painter exists to help people, through amazing customer service and excellent company culture.

Paint It Forward

That 1 Painter’s Founder, Steven Montgomery, has found an immense sense of purpose through his life in ministry. A Christian who’s served in co-vocational pastoral roles for several years, Steven is especially committed to honoring his grandfather’s legacy, a missionary of 48 years who passed away in 2020.

Having refused many full- and part-time pastoral positions (“I’d rather see the money go elsewhere,” he insists), Steven is currently focused on overseeing missions of his own. Paint It Forward reflects Steven and That 1 Painter’s ultimate goal: To help fellow human beings.

We know each of our franchise partners has a different background and a different style of learning. So, instead of assuming what it is you need, we get to know you as a person and a business partner before we begin our onboarding process. We then tailor our training and coaching programs according to your own unique experiences and personal objectives. And while we’re always available to you, we also provide additional resources through our learning management system, specifically designed to cater to franchise owners.
