By Lorneth PetersTN Small Business Development Center - CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – There is no shortage of ways that veteran service members integrate into the Clarksville community. Many local business owners and entrepreneurs have continued to make Clarksville home even after their military service. Gymboree Play & Music, an educational and development center for children, is one of those businesses.

Lindsey White, an active duty Air Force and a diplomatic Corp member, saw a need for a safe, fun, and educational environment for babies and toddlers.  White used her military training, especially her strategic planning and problem solving, when launching her business in early 2019.

“My military background was instrumental in me becoming a business owner. The road to business ownership has been a challenge. Sometimes I wanted to give up and return to a comfortable and predictable life, but my desire to provide a space for younger kids in Clarksville, kept me going,” said White.

When asked what suggestion she would give entrepreneurs and business owners she stated, “Meet with your local small business development center, explore different funding opportunities by meeting with your local banks, and never give up on your dream to be a business owner.”

For over 40 years, Gymboree Play & Music centers have been the global leaders in early childhood play-based education for children birth to 5-years-old. The curriculum, marketing materials, and equipment are created by early childhood development professionals who balance a whole-child approach and play that is child focused.

Gymboree Play & Music is at 210 Needmore Rd. Suite F, and offers individualized classes typically between 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday. Birthday parties are held Saturday afternoon which are 90-minute blocks at 2 & 4 p.m.
